Shopify and Klaviyo Lifecycle Automation

A planned customer journey from explicit signup through purchase and retention.

Planned / Local demonstration not yet available

01

The problem

Recovery messages need to respect permission and stop when the relevant checkout becomes an order.

02

My role

Independent portfolio project. I own the concept, content, implementation, and verification scope.

03

The planned approach

Typed fixtures and deterministic rules will remain separate from presentation and any future platform connection.

  • Make permission and exit decisions explicit.

04

The planned solution

A planned Shopify and Klaviyo lifecycle covering subscription, welcome, checkout recovery, purchase, and retention, supported by responsive email templates and an event map.

05

Expected results

Success will mean the right lifecycle message follows each scenario and recovery stops when the related checkout becomes an order. Review will cover consent changes, repeated events, suppression, and reporting definitions before measuring campaign performance.

06

Learning goals

Develop practical skill in connecting storefront events with lifecycle segments and flow rules. Document how event identity, timing, and permission affect the messages a customer receives.

07

Evidence to build

The customer journey

This project will connect a Shopify shopping experience with a Klaviyo lifecycle, starting at signup and continuing through purchase and retention. The aim is to make each message useful in the context of what the customer has already done.

Signup and welcome

The planned entry point is an explicit subscription with clear permission. A welcome sequence will introduce the brand and its products, while segmentation will distinguish new subscribers from customers who have already purchased. The same person should not receive messages that contradict their current stage.

Checkout recovery and purchase

Recovery logic will connect messages to a relevant checkout and stop when that checkout becomes an order. The implementation plan includes timing, suppression, and duplicate event handling. Purchase events will move the customer into an appropriate post-purchase journey instead of continuing a recovery sequence.

What I will build

  • A Shopify and Klaviyo event map covering signup, checkout, and order activity.
  • A welcome flow, checkout recovery flow, and post-purchase flow.
  • Responsive email templates with product context and clear next actions.
  • Segments and suppression rules based on permission and lifecycle stage.
  • A local scenario viewer and a recorded walkthrough of the eventual platform setup.

Retention and review

Retention messages will be planned around the customer’s purchase context rather than a generic broadcast schedule. I will review unsubscribe handling, completed purchases, repeated events, and the definitions used in reporting. The completed case study will connect the storefront, event data, flow decisions, and emails in one walkthrough.

Next steps

  • Implement and test the planned local demonstration.
  • Collect platform evidence separately.
